Courier August 31

It is hard to believe that September is upon us!  I hope that everyone enjoys the long weekend as there is no school on Monday, September 4.  We only have a couple of things to share with you this week about upcoming events.

Don’t forget that Thursday, September 7 is curriculum night from 5:00 to 6:30.  We will start in the cafeteria briefly and then you will have the opportunity to meet with the teachers.  Teachers will repeat the same sessions from 5:15-5:35, 5:40-6:00, and 6:05-6:25.

On September 21 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm our second-grade team will be hosting a math night for all LRE parents.  This will be a chance to come with your child to make materials that you can take home to practice math skills with your students.

As we begin to plan our STEM activities for the year, our STEM team as asked I share their materials wish list.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  You can view the list by clicking here: STEM Material Donations

Courier for August 24, 2017

It’s been a busy week at the Ridge!  The students are working hard getting situated in the weekly rituals and routines for the year.  The eclipse was an amazing experience for students and staff.  I am not sure what was more enjoyable…seeing the eclipse or hearing the reactions of students as they saw the eclipse.  We have been talking a lot about our character education word for the month, respect.  Classes have morning meetings each day to talk about how to respect themselves, other students, and adults.  Ask your child what they have learned these past couple weeks about respect and how they show respect to others.

This week the only courier item is a reminder about the Welcome Back, PTA picnic tomorrow! Click here to view the flyer: image2017-08-24-083134-209xdcw

Courier Items 8/17/17

Welcome to the second week of digital courier for the 2017-2018 school year.  There are a number of items this week for you to review.

First, have you signed up for SchoolCafe yet?  This year parents are able to deposit money in their child’s cafeteria account and complete a free/reduced school lunch application online at https://www.schoolcafe.com/  For directions on how to set-up an account and make payments, the parent resource guide can be found at http://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/school-nutrition/files/2017/05/Card-SchoolCafe-ParentGuide-MakingPayments.pdf  Even if your child does not eat school lunch, we would like to request that all families complete a lunch application.  The number of approved applications assists the school with gaining access to federal funds as well as a number of grant opportunities.   To learn about lunch prices and menus visit the school nutrition website at http://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/school-nutrition/

As you are all aware Monday is the Solar Eclipse.  Dismissal will be delayed one hour so buses will begin loading at 3:25 pm.  Please be aware that aftercare will close at the usual time.  Car riders will be dismissed from the cafeteria.  Walkers will be dismissed from the art room instead of outside by the gym.  If you are planning to come check out your child early, please arrive no later than 12:30 pm.  Please know that if you choose to have your child stay home on Monday for the eclipse the absence will be unexcused absence.

For those of you returning to LRE this year, if your child was evaluated for the gifted program in the Fall of 2016, Ms. Hammer sent home letters last Thursday in your child’s courier envelope.  If you did not receive the information you can contact Ms. Hammer at Tracy_Hammer@dekalbschoolsga.org
