Hello Laurel Ridge!
It is hard to believe that it is almost October! As shared last week, the district is in the process of planning for making up the four instructional days lost due to Hurricane Irma. The current plan is for school to be held on Tuesday, November 7 (Election Day) instead of it being a Teacher Workday. School will also be extended 20 minutes from October 2 until October 31. Drop off will still begin at 7:15 in the morning, breakfast will be served until 7:45, and the instructional day will begin at 7:55 am. Dismissal will start at 2:45 pm instead of 2:25 pm. October 2 – National Custodian Appreciation Day! Please join us in saying a special Thank you to Mr. Bush, Ms. Houston, and Mr. Posten for all they do for LRE!
October 2 – 6 – Georgia Pre-K week! Georgia is celebrating 25 years of Pre-K!
October 4 – PTA meeting in the media center at 6:30pm
October 4 – Walk, Bike, or Roll to School day! Join Laurel Ridge students in this fun, healthy, environmentally friendly community event. After biking, walking, or rolling to school, join us in the Little Free Library Park before entering the building. We will provide small incentives for the kids and coffee for the adults who walk/bike/roll with their kids to school. Families that live too far from the school to bike/walk/roll the entire way are encouraged to park in the side parking lot at Publix and walk from there. PTA is looking for volunteers to monitor some of the neighborhood crosswalks from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4. After monitoring a crosswalk, please join us at the school at 8:00 a.m. so that we can show our appreciation with free coffee!
October 5, 6 & 9 – Fall Break! No School
October 9 -13 – National School Lunch Week! Please encourage your child to try school lunch!
October 11 – STEM Parent Night! (This is a parent only event.) Come learn about STEM at LRE.
October 18 – LRE Parent Night from 5pm to 6pm! (This is a student-friendly event!) Come learn more about how to help your child at home. Third Grade will be hosting sessions about math. First Grade will be hosting sessions about how to read with your child at home! These events are open to all parents!
October 19 – Progress Reports Sent Home
October 25 – JA Day with Druid Hills High School. This is always a student favorite event when the ROTC comes and spends the day at LRE.
October 26 – Parent Conference Night from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Details on signing up for a conference will be shared soon!
